Wyndham City Councillor Intaj Khan who is seeking pre-selection for the Victorian seat of Tarneit is once again in news.
Mr Khan who was charged with nine offences over non-disclosure of his business interests and properties is now facing an axe to his training college that is a major part of his business.
The Australian Skills Quality Authority has announced the cancellation of Cr Khan’s Western Institute of Technology in Melbourne along with three other colleges in Victoria.
The decision to cancel the registration of Mr Khan’s college has been announced following a regulatory scrutiny.
“ASQA contends that the providers have not operated consistently with the requirements of the VET Quality Framework, which is a condition of registration,” the authority said in a statement.
Mr Khan says he has filed an appeal in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal against the decision.
Fairfax Media reported that the Authority found that Western Institute had insufficient trainers and resources, insufficient facilities and equipment, employed poor assessment procedures and the trainers were without appropriate qualifications.
“ASQA raises some compliance issues but that doesn’t mean that all the staff in the college is not appropriately qualified or these issues exist in every part of the institute,” Mr Khan told SBS Punjabi. He said he was hopeful of a favourable outcome.
The Authority’s decision is the latest blow to Cr Khan in a series of setbacks in the recent times. He was recently suspended form the Wyndham Council for four weeks over his criticism of the council on Facebook.
He criticised the council for the delay in execution of the project and its decision to change the name of a proposed Victorian government-funded Indian precinct and call it South Asian Cultural Precinct.
“I strongly oppose Wyndham City Council's delay to frustrate Labor Government's attempt to bring a Wyndham Indian cultural precinct to celebrate Indian culture. Why did it take over a year to appoint consultants to do feasibility study and now the name has been sneakily changed to South Asian Cultural Precinct instead of Indian. Council should have consulted with Indian Community and Victorian State Government first before changing the names. I stand with State Government decision to build a precinct dedicated to the world's oldest cultural identity,” he wrote on Facebook in June.
Councillor Khan is also facing investigation over allegations of bankrolling dummy candidates in the council elections.
The other colleges to face the axe are Direction Training, Big Future Training Institute and South Pacific Institute.
