'Russian man of principles' is still remembered by his Aboriginal descendants

ANU historian and writer, Dr. Elena Govor, tells the story of Leandro Illin and his family who settled in Australia in 1910. Five years later Leandro married a Ngadjon Aboriginal woman, Kitty, and after her death in 1925 he raised their six children by himself in outback Queensland.
