We caught up with Sydney-based museum curator and former rugby league player, Lalau Leo Tanoi for this episode of TALANOA.

Lalau Leo Tanoi was born in South Auckland, New Zealand, and attended De La Salle College where he played First XV Rugby Union and First XIII Rugby League.

In this interview he shares some of the highlights on a career in rugby league, including a stint with the Cronulla Sharks club, and his youth work that opened a door for him to work as a curator and facilitator of Pasefika Art exhibitions.

Lalau is a matai (chiefly) title that his father had. The title was conferred upon Leo after his father passed away. Lalau talks about the challenges of having a matai title and what it means to him as a Samoan male living in metropolitan Sydney.

Lalau Leo Tanoi is still very passionate about Pasefika youth and rugby league.

He also featured in our podcast 'Tama Samoa: Samoans in the NRL'.
