The Director of the Global Centre for Justice and Advocacy Leadership, le Susuga Alopi Latukefu, spoke to us about the importance of the recent advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice on Climate Change for Moana Pasefika nations and the world.

A climate action by law students of the University of the South Pacific has paved the way for potential legal sanctions on countries that disregard their climate responsibilities.

The Director of the Global Centre for Social Justice and Advocacy Leadership, Alopi Latukefu, told us in this interview, the targets that Western Industrial countries, and the UN have set up, have all been short of the mark to address the existential problem of climate change.

In a Media Release from the Global Centre for Social Justice and Advocacy Leadership on Australia's emissions targets for 2035, Mr Alopi Latukefu says:

“As the potential host of COP31 with the Pacific next year, Australia has a practical, strategic and moral obligation to be ambitious with its 2035 targets in the interest of not only Australia but our region and the world. Yesterday’s advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice only reinforces this.”
