TINĀ: as seen by 3 Pasefika women in Sydney.

The film TINĀ had a premiere screening in Sydney last week and I recorded the following interview with three amazing Pasefika women after the screening. Please have a listen.

Ms Katea Mahe is a film critic of Tongan heritage. She wonders about the ‘āiga support for the TINĀ character and how much of the story is about and for a Pasefika audience.

Ms Talica Tamanitoakula from Fiji also wonders whether the story is about educating 'palagi' privileged kids about Samoan culture. What about Pasefika not-so-privileged kids?

But they all agree, as Ms Christine Afoa points out, that it is great to see a Pasefika film, written and directed by a Pasefika person (Miki Magasiva) starting conversations about Pasefika/Polynesian people and cultures. "It's not a space we normally occupy."
