Serbian soprano Sonja Šarić came in second, she also won Audience Prize and was awarded the DECCA Award by Universal Music.

The international soprano Sonja Šarić was competing in the 2019 Elizabeth Connell Prize in Sydney on 5 and 7 September.

The judges for the Elizabeth Connell Prize were Richard Bonynge, Bernadette Cullen, Fiona Janes, Jennifer McGregor and Patricia Price and it was held in conjunction with the JSRB Bel Canto Award.

The winner of the $25,000 Elizabeth Connell Prize was 34-year-old Hannakaisa Nyrönen from Finland.

Elizabeth Connell Prize is open to the sopranos of the world aged 25-34 who show the potential to sing the dramatic repertoire. This prize was established in 2011 by the Foundation from a legacy left by the late Elizabeth Connell, the great South African dramatic soprano who made her debut in Sydney at the opening of the Sydney Opera House in War & Peace in 1973.
