ஆஸ்திரேலியாவில் அடிமைகளாக இருக்கும் வெளிநாட்டுத் தொழிலாளர்கள்

பணியாளர்களை அடிமைகள் போல் நடத்திய காரணத்தினால் துப்பரவுச் சேவை செய்யும் நிறுவனம் ஒன்றுக்கு கடுமையான அபராதம் விதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

சிட்னியை தளமாகக் கொண்டுள்ள இந்த துப்பரவு நிறுவனம் தனது 51 தொழிலாளர்களில் பெரும்பான்மையானவர்களை அடிமைகள் போல் நடத்தியுள்ளது. இதற்கு அபராதமாக $447,300 டாலர்கள் தண்டப்பணம் விதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

2011 தொடக்கம் 2013 வரை வேலை செய்த 49 பணியாளர்களுக்கு $223,000 டாலர்கள் செலுத்தும்படி உத்தரவிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதில் பெரும்பாலானவர்கள் வெளிநாட்டிலிருந்து வந்த தொழிலாளர்களென்றும் அவர்களுக்கு மட்டுப்படுத்தப்பட்ட ஆங்கில அறிவே இருந்துள்ளதென்றும் தெரியவந்துள்ளது. அத்துடன் அவர்களுக்கு இங்குள்ள சட்ட விதிகள் மற்றும் அவர்களுக்கான உரிமைகள் பற்றிய அறிவு  இருந்திருக்கவில்லையென்றும் தெரியவந்துள்ளது.

A Colombian student was threatened with deportation, an Italian student was told to 'kiss my ass' after requesting unpaid wages, and another struggled to support her partner through cancer treatment.

One local employee, who wished to remain anonymous, told SBS, he worked for the company in good faith.

"I felt sick about the whole thing. I did the best for them and they turned around and slap you in the mouth and say you're a piece of rubbish, forget it, I don't care about you, the law can't protect, no-one can protect you, I'm just going to walk all over you," he said.
