Ukrainians in Australia marks the 203rd anniversary of the birth of Ukraines Bard, Taras Shevchenko. Though he lived only 47 years, he produced poetry and artwork that is cherished around the world and his dedication to the Ukrainian cause will remain close to our hearts forever. His was a voice that spoke loudly and forcefully for self-determination and freedom, and today, as the people of Ukraine bravely battle to protect their country from invasion the words of Taras Shevchenko continue to inspire them and us. On Sunday, March 19, Ukrainians in Victoria dedicated to the memory of the great Ukrainian poet and patriot, painter and educator Taras Shevchenko was held at the Ukrainian House in Essendon.
