At a summit in Madrid on June 23-24, the European Parliament will recommend that the leaders of the European Union grant Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership.  This was stated during the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg by the chairman of the EP Committee on Foreign Affairs David McAllister, Ukrinform reports.  Mr McAllister noted that because of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, the whole of Europe is threatened, so the EU must respond appropriately to global strategic rivalry and complex security threats.
