It has been a tumultuous year in foreign affairs for Australia, as one of Australia's longest-serving foreign ministers resigned from the portfolio after Scott Morrison became the new prime minister. In her last months in the portfolio, Julie Bishop presided over a cut to foreign aid, with the Federal Budget indicating it was on target to reach its lowest level ever.
