Bogdan Rudnytski interviewed the Ukrainian tenor Dmytro Popov, who was a prize winner at Plácido Domingos 2007 Operalia World Contest in Paris. Mr Popov made several significant debuts: 22 years old artist at the Kyiv National Opera, after at The Royal Opera House Covent Garden, The Metropolitan Opera, L'Opera de Monte Carlo, Deutsche Oper Berlin. He made his Opera Australia debut with Don José in Carmen - Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour in 2013. In 2017, May 4 -26, Dmytro performance of Don José in the new production of Carmen. Small-town boy Don José is serving with the army far from home. His fellow soldiers are captivated by the strange allure of a gypsy woman, Carmen. The final confrontation between Carmen and Don Jose comes as a bit of an abrupt shock - Carmen knows this man will kill her, and so do we. Not just because it was foretold by the cards, but because Carmen exists in a world in which there are men who believe they own a woman and will destroy her if she wont submit. Yes, this is a Carmen not to be missed.
