Pakistanis to get more scholarships to study in China

Pakistani students account for the fourth largest group of foreign students studying in China, after American, Thai and South Korean students.

The Ambassador of China to Pakistan, Yao Jing has said that China is increasing the number of scholarships for Pakistani students to study in Chinese universities.

He was speaking at the opening of a photo exhibition hosted by a Pakistani university, National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad.

According to a local news report, Mr Jing stressed for enhanced people-to-people contacts to take Pak-China strategic partnership to new heights.

“It is the people who matter in the relationship,” Mr Jing said.

20,000 scholarships will be offered to Pakistani students.

To celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year, the Chinese Studies Centre (CSC) at NUST School of Social Sciences and Humanities (S3H), in partnership with the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad organised a photo exhibition about ‘China and the world.’

China is one of the relatively new destinations for Pakistanis to pursue international education. The number of Pakistani students visiting China to study has also increased in recent years.

According to the Deputy Chief Mission of Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, Lijian Zhao, 5,000 Pakistani students received Chinese scholarships in 2016, while 22,000 Pakistani students studied in Chinese universities in the same year.

Several university scholarships are now available at the Higher Education Commission Pakistan’s (HEC) website for Pakistani students to apply. HEC-Pakistan is the governing body for all foreign scholarships available to Pakistanis.

The degrees include Bachelors, Masters and researched based PhDs that are on offer in several Chinese universities.
