In its fourth edition, Pakistan Super League continues with much fanfare, excitement and cricket drama similar to its past editions.
After the completion of matches in the United Arab Emirates, the last few leagues matches and the finals will be played in the country’s largest city, Karachi.
All eyes are now on the remainder league games that will determine the teams to qualify for the playoffs.
The final of the tournament will be played on the 17th March and the winner will lift coveted trophy of the league.
SBS Urdu takes a look at the new trophy of PSL 4 and finds out why crickets fans love it.
Weighing 18 kilos, the trophy is called ‘Pakistan Trophy’ and is crafted with over 50,000 Swarovski Crystals.
The trophy is made of 6 pillars, each representing a team in the league. The teams currently playing the tournament are Karachi Kings, Islamabad United, Lahore Qalandars, Quetta Gladiators, Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmis.
On the top of each pillar is a colour that represents each team.
The permanent feature of the trophy is the ‘shooting star’ which lies at the pinnacle of the trophy representing Pakistan and cricket.
According to the Swarovski Middle East and Africa Managing Director, Andrew Mojica, the trophy took over four months from concept to the final product.
“The inspiration for this year’s trophy is derived from the [Pakistan’s] national flag and we feel the trophy is an ode to this beautiful and iconic symbol of patriotism. It is to also celebrate the beautiful cultural diversity of Pakistan which culminates into a sense of unity and pride."
