Marking 50 years of SBS, writer Tariq Mahmood Mirza praised it as a unique national broadcaster now thriving on both radio and social media. A regular Urdu program listener since the 1990s, he credits its popularity to balanced, unbiased reporting.
On SBS’s 50th anniversary, Australian writer and author Tariq Mahmood Mirza called SBS a symbol of Australian multiculturalism. He said that SBS Urdu is also succeeding across digital and social platforms.
According to Tariq Mirza, SBS Urdu’s live video streaming on Facebook, Instagram Reels, and YouTube podcasts has become the digital and social identity of SBS across Australia.
Mr Mirza acknowledged that news and analysis have been popular with listeners since the early days. Whether it was Radiothon or live broadcasts from major community festivals, all of these have been part of SBS’s historic coverage.
