2017 has been an eventful year for the Turnbull Government, facing challenges both from the opposition and within. It was the resignation of Green senator Scott Ludlam, under violation of Article 44(i) of the Constitution which triggered a chain of events, forcing a number of members of parliament and senators to step down and face by-elections. With John Alexander winning the Bennelong by-election, the Government has managed to retain its slim majority in the parliament, however, Moeen Cheema, Senior Lecturer at ANU College of Law has outlined challenges ahead for Turnbull government in coming months.
