Tanya Taylor, Mayor of Willoughby, recently discovered she is a sixth-generation descendant of a First Fleet family. Speaking to SBS Urdu, she said multiculturalism is central to Australia's identity, strength and future.
As Mayor of Willoughby, a diverse North Shore council area of around 80,000 residents, where more than 45 per cent of people were born overseas or have a parent or grandparent born overseas, she proudly describes it as the "City of Diversity".

“Migration has been a vital part of Australia’s evolving identity and should continue to be encouraged, but it must be supported by proper planning for housing, services and infrastructure,” says Tanya Taylor, Mayor of Willoughby.
She adds that every person has a unique story, and the more Australians listen to and understand one another, the stronger the nation becomes.
