Women are driving the State’s jobs boom with the latest ABS data revealing females in NSW have landed more new jobs than in the rest of Australia combined over the past year. Minister for Women Tanya Davies told SBS Urdu that an additional 76,600 new jobs created in NSW in the last 12 months are held by women. “More women have joined the workforce since 2015 than in the whole of Labor’s last eight years in Government, and there are now more new female full-time jobs since the last election than in all of Labor’s last decade.” She emphasized the role of migrant women in Australian society and asked new immigrants to avail the opportunities given by the government by additional resources and funding to join workforce. In a response to a question about safe and flexi work environment, minister highlighted various ongoing programs including transitioning and mentoring. “The NSW Government is committed to promoting gender equality and advancing the economic status of women of all ages and backgrounds by boosting women’s workforce participation and improving workplace flexibility,” Mrs Davies said. Women are also at the forefront of jobs growth sweeping across regional NSW, with 65 per cent of the 90,500 jobs added since 2015 represented by women. “The investment boom in NSW is resulting in a growth in front line services, opening up a diverse range of new employment opportunities in our regions.” “The NSW Government is keen to assist newly arrived migrant to join even non conventional male dominant sectors to enhance the diversity and reduce gender inequality,” Mrs Davies added. Since 2015, 59 per cent of all new jobs and 64 per cent of new jobs for over-54s in NSW have gone to women. 2016 census data reveals lesser household income in many migrant families since most of the women are not working.Families of single earner often struggles to meet expenses and hence increase the risk of social disturbance and domestic violence.
