$1.3 million in aid program fraud

There was $1.3 million defrauded from Australia's $5 billion aid program in the last financial year.

The Australian foreign aid program was defrauded by $1.3 million in the 2014/15 financial year.

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade official Scott Dawson said there were 159 fraud cases that were being investigated and efforts were under way to recoup the money.

The aid program's total was $5 billion that year and fraud only made up 0.026 per cent.
