Sydney superstar Lance Franklin believes someone can crack the magical 100-goal mark in the AFL this year, he's just not sure it will be him.
Franklin leads the Coleman Medal race with 37, five ahead of last year's winner, West Coast's Josh Kennedy, and Gold Coast's Tom Lynch.
The 29-year-old was the last man to crack the ton when he kicked 102 goals in 2008 during his time with Hawthorn, with no one having kicked more than 86 since.
In three of the intervening years, the Coleman Medal winner has booted less than 70 majors.
"To get that 100 goals would be an unbelievable effort, but you've got to play consistently over the course of the whole year," Franklin said on Wednesday.
"I think it can be done, but who knows who it will be?
"There's a lot of guys kicking a lot of goals this time and the general play of football at the moment is opening up.
"There is one-on-ones going for the blokes so as you can see this year, blokes have kicked bags of goals."
Franklin isn't sure he agrees with the pundits who say he's in career-best form, though statistics suggest he is.
The offensive juggernaut is kicking just on two goals for every behind, well above his career average.
Franklin did stress he was enjoying his football, after taking the latter stage of last season off due to a mental health issue.
"I obviously had that time away from football which was good for me, it was something I needed to do," Franklin said.
"To have that break away from football has been amazing. I've come back refreshed and ready to go."
Franklin goes into this weekend's indigenous round as the code's highest-profile indigenous player.
While he agreed it was sad that former teammate Adam Goodes felt forced out of the game because of racism, Franklin is yet to take on his mantle as a spokesman for indigenous issues.
"I don't consciously stay away from it, but I think it's something that I will grow into as the years go on," Franklin said.
