100-year old becomes Australian citizen

Thousands of people from 155 countries became Australian citizens this Australia Day; but none were quite as old as Iraq-born Aziza Rawaini.

It was 1913 when Aziza Rawaini's parents gave birth to their daughter in Iraq.

One hundred years and six months later, she became the oldest person ever to gain Australian citizenship.

Aziza fled violence in Iraq to seek safety in Syria, before ending up in Sydney.

And while her carer relatives hope they can follow in her footsteps and gain citizenship, they say they are learning from Aziza the importance of patience.
