11 killed on Aust roads over long weekend

Eleven people have died on the roads across the country during the Queen's birthday long weekend.

Eleven people have died and 10 were seriously injured on the roads on the Queen's birthday long weekend.

The most recent was a woman in her 30s who died in a collision at the intersection of the Copper Coast and Yorke highways at Beaufort, north of Adelaide, about 11am on Monday.

She was a passenger in one of the cars.

Three adults, including both drivers, and three children have been taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Four men have died on Queensland's roads this weekend.

A 54-year-old man was killed when the truck he was driving rolled and caught fire on the Bruce Highway, north of Gin Gin, on Sunday afternoon.

A 50-year-old man whose vehicle left the road at Laidley in the state's south, injuring a 12-year-old girl, also died about 4pm on Friday.

Shortly after midnight on Saturday a 17-year-old driver was killed when his car hit a tree at Keperra in Brisbane's northwest after he failed to stop for police.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and the Ethical Standards Command have been advised.

A man aged in his 50s also died when his car rolled at Nerimbera, near Rockhampton, then plunged down a steep embankment before hitting a fence, about 4.30am on Saturday.

In Victoria a woman died after being hit by a car as she crossed the road near the Kyneton train station, outside Melbourne, just before 6pm on Friday.

Two people died instantly when their car hit a truck on the Princes Highway in eastern Victoria about 11.30am on Saturday.

A nine-year-old boy died and a girl, 12, is fighting for her life after a single-vehicle crash in Victoria's east on Sunday evening.

Police say four children and a woman were in the car when it left the road and rolled at Lindenow South.

A four-year-old boy has also died and two adults are in hospital after a car crash in southern NSW.

A 39-year-old man was driving on the Hume Highway near Tarcutta on Sunday morning when it veered off the road and crashed into a tree.

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old woman from NSW died in a two-vehicle crash on the Tasman Highway, near Nelsons Creek in Tasmania.

Police say the woman was a passenger in a sedan that collided with the front of an oncoming utility about 6.35pm on Friday.
