124 million kids missing out on school: Gillard

Former prime minister Julia Gillard is in Ethiopia making the case that world leaders need to plough more money into education for kids missing out.

There are five times as many children around the world missing out on an education as Australia's total population.

Former prime minister Julia Gillard is making the case at the United Nations financing for development conference in Ethiopia that global leaders need to put more money into educating youngsters who are missing out on school.

The UN will set new development goals for the next 15 years in September, including one that aims to make sure every boy and girl gets to go to primary and secondary school.
