$26 million funding boost for firefighting

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced a $26 million funding boost to help communities and authorities prepare for and respond to bushfires.

FEDERAL FUNDING BOOST TO FIGHT BUSHFIRES

* $11 million for more specialist firefighting air tankers

* $5.85 million to overhaul the national fire danger rating system

* $5 million to help states and territories to build resilience and prepare for natural disasters in high risk communities

* $2 million to upgrade the national emergency alert SMS system

* $1.5 million to expand a trial delivering mobile broadband to Australia's public safety agencies

* $750,000 to investigate telephone-based emergency warning systems
