Gold Coast will name Gary Ablett to play his 300th AFL match this weekend after the midfield superstar completed training on Thursday.

The 33-year-old was set to achieve the milestone last week but was ruled out of the Suns' loss to St Kilda in Melbourne due to a calf injury.

Ablett completed a full session at Metricon Stadium and Suns' football manager Marcus Ashcroft confirmed the dual Brownlow medallist will be named to take on North Melbourne at the same venue on Saturday.

"Gary will be selected in the senior team this weekend with the expectation he'll play," Ashcroft said.

The Suns will also name Pearce Hanley but the Irishman faces a further fitness test on his injured hamstring.

"We're still hopeful and optimistic he'll be able to play," Ashcroft said.

Ablett's return will be a timely one for Suns' coach Rodney Eade with the defeat against the Saints leaving Gold Coast 14th on the ladder, two wins outside the top eight.
