Perhaps elite NFL running back Reggie Bush and NRL convert Jarryd Hayne are meant to be together.
A few weeks ago Bush and Hayne appeared set to be teammates at the Detroit Lions, but the team cut Bush and then Hayne signed with the San Francisco 49ers.
Bush visited the 49ers earlier this week.
"We had a great conversation," 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said.
"He's looking for a home, and we obviously have interest, that's why we brought him in here."
It was a promotional visit to Australia by Bush last year that helped stoke Hayne's desire to quit the NRL and take a chance at playing in the NFL.
Bush was full of praise for Hayne after dropping in to meet the dual Dally M Medal winner and the rest of his NSW team-mates at Sydney's ANZ Stadium.
While Hayne is a long-shot to make it on the 49ers squad for the 2015-16 season, the team is desperate to fill the running back void left by five-time Pro Bowl selection Frank Gore's decision to leave the club and sign with the Indianapolis Colts.
An ankle injury forced Bush, the second overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft and Heisman Trophy winner, to miss five games with the Lions last year.
Bush is also fielding interest from the team that drafted him, the New Orleans Saints, and Super Bowl champions New England Patriots.
