49ers welcome their mate Hayne to the NFL

The San Francisco 49ers are rejoicing their decision to beat the Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks to sign Jarryd Hayne.

It's a photo Jarryd Hayne will cherish.

The moment captures San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula giving Hayne a hearty handshake as the Australian rookie sat shirtless in the team's locker room.

The 49ers put the photo up on their Twitter account soon after the team announced Hayne had made the 53-man squad for the NFL season.

"Welcome aboard mate!" the 49ers announced.

The handshake is something Hayne likely dreamed about since late last year when he shocked the NRL by announcing he had quit the Parramatta Eels and would try to become an NFL players.

Hayne also used Twitter to announce the news he made the 53-man squad, beating the 49ers with their official release.

"I'm on the 53 MAN ROSTER FOR THE #49ers," Hayne wrote.

On Saturday he learned he survived when 37 other NFL players, many veterans or prized college players, had been cut from the 49ers.

"IT ALWAYS WORKS OUT!" Hayne tweeted.

"I thank GOD for WHAT HE has done and going to do on this incredible journey!!"
