A raid has taken place at Sydney's Villawood Detention Centre following reports that five inmates damaged property during a 24-hour ice-fuelled rampage.

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton says five people have removed from the centre and have been relocated to high-security facilities or solitary confinement.

"We're come down like a tonne of bricks on a few of the people who were there," Mr Dutton told Macquarie Radio.
