5SOS have won their first MTV VMA

Sydney band 5 Seconds of Summer have won their first MTV Video Music Award for Best Lyric Video.

Aussie boy band Five Seconds of Summer have won an MTV Video Music Award - even before the show began.

The four Sydney boys won the award for Best Lyric Video for their track Don't Stop, and posed with their first Moonman gong on the red carpet on Sunday from the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Wearing a grungy look, the quartet posed for photos with their moonman to the screams of fans.

The band are also up for the Artist to Watch award.

The boys stayed on the red carpet chatting and doing interviews before going inside the venue to perform.

Fellow Aussie Iggy Azalea who arrived on the red carpet wearing a floor-length, strapless silver gown, will also perform at the awards show.

Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande turned up ready to shake off their good girl images with Grande wearing a black leather Moschino mini skirt and matching thigh-high leather boots, while Swift wore a bum-skimming body-hugging blue playsuit.
