Victoria Police are offering million-dollar rewards in the hope these will help solve eight cold-case murders and disappearances.

The eight $1 million rewards announced on Saturday relate to the cases of six women and two men who were killed or died between 1985 and 2002.

"To lose someone you love in violent circumstance would be incomprehensible to anyone, to have the added factor of not knowing who was responsible and what happened adds to the trauma," Commander Doug Fryer said.

The body of Debbie Lorraine Bunworth has never been found after the mother of one was last seen at Newport train station in September 1985.

In 2003, a coroner ruled Ms Bunworth was a victim of foul play.

This week, Melbourne detectives travelled to Adelaide to interview a man they said was a person of interest.

Police believe Ballarat woman Tracey Howard was strangled at home in November 1998 after she returned from a local nightclub. Her body was found dumped in a nearby town.

Investigators also believe 36-year-old Belinda Williams was strangled at home in June 1999 while her six-year-old daughter slept. Her body was later found dumped in the bush.

Croydon man Kade Hall's decomposed body was found in the bush off the Mt Dandenong Tourist Road in March 2002. The 24-year-old had been shot once in the head.

"We believe the announcement of these $1 million rewards will hopefully bring a resolution to the family members and loved ones of these victims," Cmdr Fryer said.
