$A bounces on jobs figures

The Australian dollar has bounced on the back of stronger-than-expected jobs figures released by the ABS.

Better-than-expected jobless figures have given the Australian dollar a shot in the arm.

The local currency hit 83.72 US cents as the data were released at 1130 AEDT on Thursday, up from 83.48 cents just before.

Australia's unemployment rate rose to 6.3 per cent in November, official figures showed, in line with economists' expectations.

But the number of jobs added to the economy surprised the market, coming in at 42,700, stronger than the 15,000 jobs economists were expecting.
