$A falls after jobs data

The Australian dollar fell after the release of jobs figures for July.

The Australian dollar fell more than a quarter of a US cent after the release of disappointing jobs figures.

Australia's unemployment rate remained steady at 5.7 per cent in July, with total employment down by 10,200, seasonally adjusted figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show.

Economists had expected the number of people with jobs to rise by 10,000 in July and an unemployment rate of 5.8 per cent.

At 1135 AEST, the Australia dollar was worth 89.92 US cents, down from 90.18 US cents just before the data's release.

The currency ended the Wednesday local session at 89.64 US cents.
