$A falls on weak jobs figures

The Australian dollar fell back to nearly 93 US cents after the release of weaker than expected jobs data.

The Australian dollar fell by almost half a US cent after the release of worse than expected jobs figures.

Australia's unemployment rate rose to 6.4 per cent in July, and the number of people with jobs fell by 300 to 11.577 million in the month.

Economists had expected total employment to rise by 12,000 in July, and unemployment to stay steady at six per cent.

The Australia dollar was worth 93.04 US cents at 1135 AEST, down from 93.43 US cents just before the data was released.
