A man has been stabbed in the leg during an altercation with another man outside a hotel in Sydney's west.

A man has been stabbed outside a hotel in Sydney's west.

Police were called to the hotel in Berala at about 2.10am on Friday to find a 30-year-old man who had been stabbed in the leg during an altercation with another man.

The armed man had fled the scene.

The injured man was treated by paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition undergoing surgery.

Police are looking for a man of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean appearance, 20-30 years old, 183cm tall with a medium to solid build, and wearing a red T-shirt and black track pants.
