$A rises on retail sales figures

The Australian dollar has received a boost on the back of stronger-than-expected retail sales figures.

Stronger-than-expected retail sales figures have given the Australian dollar a boost from its four-year lows.

The local currency hit 84.20 US cents as the data was released at 1130 AEDT on Thursday, up from 84.02 cents just before.

Australian retail spending rose 0.4 per cent in October, official figures showed, which is better than the 0.1 per cent rise economists were expecting.

The Australian dollar has fallen to fresh four-year lows of 83.86 US cents since the release of disappointing economic growth figures on Wednesday.
