A Shot in the R18+

Who would've thought that making something "restricted" would be so liberating?

After years of debate, petitions, death threats and zombie-themed protests by Australian gamers, the Attorneys-General have finally agreed to let the Federal Government begin drafting legislation that will introduce of an R18+ classification for video games.

Earlier this week New South Wales became the last state / territory to give "in-principle" support for the rating, because it would help "keep adult material beyond the reach of children".

It also promises to give adults who grew up playing video games more choice, after several titles were either banned (the latest Mortal Kombat installment) or edited (Left 4 Dead 2) by Australian censors.

Speaking of stuff you may have grown up with, which one bothers you more: the fact that thousands have signed a petition for Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street to get married, or that there are plans to remake the movie "Dirty Dancing"?

Then again, it's not quite as bad as a Sydney tabloid labelling you "a very warped human being". Right?
