A snapshot of Commonwealth Games action

A snapshot of action from the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

JAMAICAN GOLD: But not in the sprints. Aisha Praught won a rare middle distance gold for Jamaica when she won the 3000m steeplechase and broke the Kenyan deadlock on the event.

JUMPING AUSSIES: Brandon Starc won a surprise gold in the high jump and Henry Frayne looked like doubling up as he led the long jump until South Africa's Luvo Manyonga relegated him to silver.

THREW IT: At the age of 35, Australian Kathryn Mitchell smashed the Games javelin record with a throw of 68.92m to win her first major international gold medal.

BLEW IT: Australian Olympic bronze medallists Maddison Keeney and Anabelle Smith led the standings going into the last dive of the 3m synchro but registered a failed dive - and no points - to finish last. And shooter Emma Cox headed into the last round of the women's double trap decider with a seven-point lead but hit only 18 of 30 targets and then lost a shoot-off for gold.

MISSING: Eight athletes from Cameroon have gone missing from the athletes village, two of whom didn't even compete. But Games officials say it happens at every Games and insist they haven't broken any laws.

HERE: The greatest athlete of all time Usain Bolt arrived at the Gold Coast on Wednesday to promote his sponsor, the Games and cheer on Jamaica's netballers the Sunshine Girls.
