Josh Ridgeway lives in the Blue Mountains region and commutes to Sydney each day to work at the NSW Aboriginal Lands Council.

His home narrowly escaped the fire which has destroyed so many others.

"It was quite a scary experience, I mean, this is something that happens every 6-7 years but I think the last major fires didn't happen for a good 13-14 years.

"So it was kind of a, bit of a tinder box waiting to happen and we were all suddenly into action mode you know."
