Abbott addresses Socceroos at Sydney Opera House

Tony Abbott has wished the Socceroos all the best ahead of the 2014 World Cup at an event in Sydney Thursday.

Speaking to an audience at the Sydney Opera House on Thursday, Abbott quipped he had had “a couple of easy weeks” leading up to the event.

He went on to say he was honoured to wish the team well before the 2014 World Cup.

"My task this evening is to celebrate sport, to celebrate football, and - of course - to celebrate our Socceroos," he said.

"You are wearing our colours into the world’s greatest team sporting event."
