Seven weeks out from the NSW election, Premier Mike Baird is set to hold onto power despite growing discontent with the federal government now having an impact at state level.
According to the latest Fairfax/Ipsos poll, the NSW coalition is up two points since November on a two-party preferred basis, leading Labor 56 per cent to 44 per cent.
The government leads 46 to 34 per cent on the primary vote.
But it appears federal politics is hitting state opinions and could drive down the NSW's coalition's majority.
Eight per cent of those who voted for the coalition at the 2011 state election say they have changed their vote because of Tony Abbott's government's performance.
Based on the poll, the Baird government would maintain power after the March 28 election but would face a swing against it of 8.2 per cent.
