Prime Minister Tony Abbott has briefed his fellow conservative David Cameron on the Australian budget during a phone call to the English leader.

Tony Abbott has briefed British prime minister David Cameron about his economic plans.

Mr Abbott phoned his fellow conservative on Wednesday evening to congratulate him on the "mighty effort" of his recent election victory.

The pair discussed the Australian budget, their respective political situations and the threats posed by terrorism and the radicalisation of young people, Mr Abbott's office said on Thursday.
