Prime Minister Tony Abbott has honoured firefighters and emergency service workers who have died in the line of duty.

Addressing a service at the National Emergency Services Memorial in Canberra on Friday, Mr Abbott paid tribute to five "brave and selfless" men who died battling fires around the country in recent times.
