The federal government has bowed to pressure and announced it's scrapping plans for a $7 dollar GP co-payment and replacing it with a new scheme.
The new proposal includes the retention of bulk-billing for pensioners, veterans, people in nursing homes and children under 16 and allows GPs to charge a discretionary fee of $5 for everyone else.
