Abbott to Bishop: no more errors

Prime Minister Tony Abbott expects Speaker Bronwyn Bishop won't make any errors in the future like she has in the "not too distant past".

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has clarified what Bronwyn Bishop's "probation" as Speaker means, warning she can't afford to make any more errors.

But the Speaker still enjoys his confidence and no one in the prime minister's office has suggested she should resign amid controversy about her use of travel entitlements for charter flights.

Mr Abbott told reporters in Canberra on Tuesday Mrs Bishop was "a good and effective Speaker of the parliament" but he expected all his team to act in accordance with the rules and be focused totally on serving the Australian people.
