It's the final sitting week of federal parliament for 2014 and the government is under pressure - both internal and external - over a number of key issues.
It is struggling to have its changes to higher education fees passed in the Senate and its controversial GP co-payment has also stalled in the upper house.
And Prime Minister Tony Abbott's budget is being blamed publicly by senior Liberals for the party's loss in the Victorian election.
Many fear the same fate could await the federal government if it fails to put its house in order.
