Abdul is prepared to dance on TV series

Paula Abdul has arrived back in Australia to judge the final 20 dancers for Sunday's first live show of the So You Think You Can Dance TV series.

Paula Abdul could follow Robbie Williams and perform on Network Ten's reality series So You Think You Can Dance.

Abdul arrived back in Australia on Tuesday to judge the final 20 dancers on Sunday's first live show of the Network Ten series.

She managed to fly under the media radar because of the hype surrounding the cast of Modern Family which arrived on the same flight from Los Angeles.

"I hung out with some of them in the lounge in Los Angeles," Abdul told AAP.

Williams performs in the first of the live shows on Sunday when he will belt out Shine My Shoes from his new album Swings Both Ways.

Abdul says she's prepared to perform and dance to a medley of her own hits if producers wish.

In late 2012, Abdul performed a medley of her hit singles Straight Up, Cold Hearted, Forever Your Girl and Opposites Attract for the All Stars version of Dancing With The Stars in the US.

"There's a lot of possibilities with that (performing), and it would be a lot of fun," Abdul told AAP when asked if she would repeat her medley for an Australian TV audience.

"If they ask me to do it, I can't imagine saying no."

The preliminary rounds for So You Think You Can Dance were taped last year.

The final 20 have been waiting several months to get back in front of Abdul and the other two judges Shannon Holtzapffel and Aaron Cash.

Abdul says the trio will meet the finalists before they take the stage and offer some friendly words of advice

She says the dancers will reminded not to try too hard and over cook their performances.

"You can get carried away with over-performing," Abdul said.

"It's something they have to be very mindful of and they get caught up with frenetic energy.

"They have to trust they have got it and perform and enjoy."

She said they have all had ample time to prepare and rehearse for Sunday's first live show and the trio of judges are expecting some knockout performances.

Abdul says she has never forgotten the words the late-Hollywood great Gene Kelly said to her when she was just making it big around the world.

"When I was able to meet Gene Kelly and befriend him, he said `if you fail to prepare you will prepare to fail' and he's right," she said.

Besides being excited about returning to Australia in anticipation of the series starting to heat-up, she's also pleased Williams will be performing on the show .

"I have met him before and I am a fan ... he's such an iconic performer."
