A key piece in the Breakers' jigsaw has fallen into place with news swingman Tom Abercrombie has signed on for another three years with the NBL champions.
The decision came after Abercrombie considered offers from overseas, and means there's every chance he'll spend his whole career with the Auckland-based club.
"In my opinion this decision cements that I would love to be a Breaker for my whole career," he said.
"Ultimately I wanted to be home, and continue to build on what I have achieved as a Breaker in the last seven years."
Abercrombie said he had enjoyed an increased leadership role within the team, something he was keen to continuing developing.
Coach Dean Vickerman says Abercrombie is a hugely significant part of the team.
"Tom leads the Breakers in professionalism and is a great example to others.
"Last season, he battled through injury for the most part and really only got his body close to 100 per cent late in the season, which contributed greatly to the team sweeping the post-season."
Vickerman said Abercrombie had played a significant role in all four of the Breakers' NBL championship wins.
Abercrombie's signing brings to seven the number of contracted players at the club, with the versatile swingman joining Cedric Jackson, Reuben Te Rangi, Mika Vukona, Duane Bailey, Alex Pledger and Tai Wesley in returning.
Abercrombie has just concluded a short-term contract in Spain with Gipuzkoa, and will spend the next two weeks holidaying in Europe before returning home.
He then joins the Tall Blacks for games in Europe and Asia in July as they build towards the Oceania Championship that doubles as qualifying for next year's Rio Olympics.
The two-match Oceania series against Australia begins in Melbourne on August 15, with Wellington hosting the second game three days later.
