The NBL champion New Zealand Breakers look set to retain Tom Abercrombie next season after his low-key NBA trial but star guard Cedric Jackson's future is less certain.
Tall Blacks swingman Abercrombie, 26, was given minimal chance to impress at the NBA Summer League, which finished in Las Vegas on Wednesday.
He produced one blocked shot for the Phoenix Suns in less than two minutes of court time as they lost the final 91-77 to the Golden State Warriors.
The Suns won their previous six games but Abercrombie played little part. He was handed nearly 16min court time in their first game but, after shooting none-from-three, was given less than 4min to show his wares over each of the remaining games.
He has joined the Tall Blacks squad in China for a short tour and is poised to rejoin the three-time defending champion Breakers for their 2013-14 NBL campaign.
"Well that chapter is over, summer league was a great experience just wish I would have got more of a chance," Abercrombie tweeted following a month in the United States which featured trial workouts with four other franchises.
Jackson's prospects of a return to the NBA after three years away are brighter.
The 27-year-old American, who was the NBL's most valuable player last season, produced solid minutes at two Summer League tournaments. He played for the Portland Trail Blazers in Las Vegas and for the Miami Heat a week earlier in Orlando.
Breakers coach Dean Vickerman said Jackson had caught the eye of scouts and that offers from European clubs were being considered by the speedy point guard.
"But his goal was to make the NBA. I think he'll hold out to try and get an invite to a camp. After that, then he'll assess Europe versus us," Vickerman told Radio Live.
"It's going to be difficult to get him back to be a Breaker, but there's still some possibility."
Jackson played in Italy in 2011 before joining the Breakers.
