Gary Ablett's AFL intentions remain a mystery to Gold Coast's interim coach Dean Solomon.

Ablett's tenure with the Suns could be over, with the dual Brownlow medallist again expected to pursue a move to Geelong.

But Solomon says he has no idea what Ablett's plans are.

"I have got no feel," Solomon said after Gold Coast copped a 115-point belting from Port Adelaide on Saturday night.

"He is contracted with us next year ... he has been good over the last couple of weeks, he has given me everything he could.

"I have absolutely no feel about what Gaz's decision is going to be, what he wants to do.

"But our expectation is he will be with us next year.

Ablett was named in the Suns' side for the 20.15 (135) to 3.2 (20) only to be a late scratching, prompting speculation he had already checked out of the Gold Coast.

But Solomon said Ablett desperately wanted to play but failed a fitness test.

"He did everything he possibly could to get up," Solomon said.

"He trained and he went through a pretty rigorous fitness test and he didn't get through - and that is the honest truth."

Solomon's own future also is clouded with the caretaker yet to decide if he wants to pitch for the top job.

Solomon held the interim role for 18 days after the sacking of Rodney Eade.

"I have loved every minute of it," he said.

"I have loved working with the whole football department and all the players.

"Over the next week or two I will get some fresh air and have a think and reflect and weigh it up from there."
