ACCI encouraged by Greens tax stance

The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is encouraged that the Greens have flagged support for a small business tax package.

It's not usual for business to agree with Greens' policies.

But the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is encouraged that the Greens have flagged their support for the federal government's planed tax cuts for small business.

The party's small business spokesman Peter Whish-Wilson says this could provide the pathway through the Senate to pass a comprehensive package for small firms.

He wants to see taxes cut to 28 per cent from 30 per cent for companies with turnover of less than $2 million, as well as restoring and increasing the scrapped instant asset write-off threshold to $10,000 and reinstating a loss carry-back provision.

ACCI boss Kate Carnell believes these tax concessions will make it easier for firms to invest, hire and grow.

She said Greens' support for these measures should send a message to other parties as they formulate their positions on these issues.

"ACCI is committed to supporting good policy, wherever it comes from," she said in a statement on Monday.

The package will form a key part of Treasurer Joe Hockey's May 12 budget.

The government has yet to detail what shape it will take other than it will contain measures to cut the "tax bills" of small business.
