Two men found dead in an eastern Sydney unit were probably electrocuted in a "terrible accident".

The bodies of the men, believed to be aged in their 50s and 70s, were found in the home on Cowper Street, Randwick, on Saturday night after neighbours in the block noticed water flowing from the unit.

Eastern Beaches Local Area Command Inspector Steven Egbers said it's believed the men were electrocuted and that foul play wasn't a factor.

He said there was nothing found near the men to suggest the electrocution was a home repair job gone wrong.

"(We believe) it's not self-inflicted," Insp Egbers told AAP.

"It's just a terrible accident."

The men had not yet been formally identified on Sunday afternoon and there was no police presence outside the tree-shaded brown-brick unit block.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
